Data scientists
As we evolve towards precision medicine, data scientists have a valuable and fascinating and task in forming and extracting value from data.
Often there are significant challenges in the work. These challenges reflect the opportunities in big data and knowledge management, but need to be much better understood in the wider research community. The lack of understanding and awareness about the value of medical research data and the importance of each step in data value chain is clear. When measures, such as standardization and curation are not fully present in the research working environment, the value of the data dramatically declines. Only a significant investment at a later stage can restore value. It is critical to observe basic standards at each step as we face the wave of big data, which itself is expected to grow exponentially when incorporating real world data and evidence based medical health research. The event will provide an overview of the data value chain and review what is out there in terms of tools and infrastructures to integrate, preserve and reuse that data. We will also identify gaps and discuss approaches, best practices and how to improve ways of working. Data experts will have the opportunity to learn more around applying data tools for enhancing disease stratification and how we can demonstrate with data visualisation tools. In attending this event you will be able to hear from and discuss approaches and issues with key opinion leaders in the field of data and knowledge management, and experience a focused and meaningful networking opportunity. Membership to the eTRIKS community can maximize the value for the data scientist’s personal development.
